Workshop 10: How to Effectively Utilize Social Media and Blog Websites in Academic Advising

Program Description
Effective communication in advising is a goal for which we all strive, but that we oftentimes struggle to accomplish. Social media is one way advisors have found success. Establishing a consistent, reliable, and easily accessible source for information can be helpful for students in transition. Creating a user friendly resource makes it valuable to students with all technological backgrounds. In this workshop, you will learn how to develop a blog website and set up accounts on Twitter and Facebook. We will discuss the best methods for integrating social media into advising, how to utilize it to lessen our advising workloads, and methods for increasing readership. Attendees will start developing their websites and exchange ideas for creating an effective communication plan.
